I was working on these pieces through this last winter, deep in the pandemic, and thinking about vacations and trips and family and places, because I was really missing all those things, and decided to write some music based on places where my family spent time together. I’ve got lots of memories and feelings wrapped up in those places, and writing music about them felt like a good way to connect with those places and people during a time where I couldn’t go to those places or see those people.

And it’s all performed live over the internet, with the performers in their own homes performing slightly delayed from everyone else. It's kind of like when you try to sing Happy Birthday on Zoom and things get a little off, but these pieces were written specifically to take advantage of the restrictions and strengths of this internet-connected medium, incorporating the delay into the design of the composition.

Writing music based so physically in a specific place felt like a good way to ground a performance that lacked physicality and lacked a shared space. So we’re all in those places together through the music.

We used Zoom for the video and Cleanfeed for the audio, and livestreamed the performance on YouTube.
